Giants open training camp Friday, practice Saturday

Giants coach Tom Coughlin treats his practice schedules like works of art, painstakingly accounting for every minute of every day. This NFL lockout has put so much of Coughlin’s treasured schedule through the shredder he could probably supply the confetti for New Year’s Eve.
Well, it looks like Coughlin can finally make a schedule that will stick. At long last, the NFL lockout came to an end Monday after player representatives of the 32 teams vote to approve a new collective bargaining agreement. That means training camps throughout the league open up this week; for the Giants, that means Friday as the day all players under contract report to work.
Finally.
Teams can start camp 15 days before their first preseason game. The Giants open Aug. 13 at Carolina, making this Friday the first day they can begin camp.
The lockout forced the Giants to waylay their usual training camp residence at the University at Albany. Instead, training camp for the first time since 1996 will not be held there but rather at the team’s Meadowlands complex.
Friday, players will report for physicals and conditioning tests. First practice is saturday, with all practices open to the public.
As details of the post-lockout rules are finalized it is clear that the signing frenzy will not have to wait very long.
Trades will be able to be discussed Monday but not finalized or made official until Saturday. It looks as if full-scale free agency will open up Tuesday, with the contracts not taking full effect until Aug. 2.
