Jets plan to use Tebow in punt formation: report

The Jets plan on using Tim Tebow on their punt team, according to a report Tuesday.

ESPN reports the team has informed Tebow he will be used as the protector on punts. That is the up-back in front of the punter. When the Jets traded for Tebow last month, there was speculation the Jets would do this.

The move makes sense. The Jets used Brad Smith like this when he was on the team. It gives the Jets the possibility of running a fake with either Tebow taking a direct snap and running or passing. It will force teams to account for Tebow rather than just being able to rush the punter or set up for a return.

The Jets acquired Tebow from the Broncos last month. They plan on using him as a Wildcat quarterback as well as some other roles on offense.
