Ebert's movie-reviewing program on hiatus

Roger Ebert has announced that his PBS-aired movie reviewing program has been placedo on "hiatus." I well remember the day my own TV program "Love Monkey" was put on hiatus, meaning it was put in the ground without anyone even saying a prayer over it, so this looks like the end for Ebert's experiment of trying to relive his "Sneak Previews" glory days with new talent. Ebert said he and his wife Chaz essentially funded the show himself, and are now looking for alternative sources of financing. It seems to me that there isn't much of a future for this type of program, except maybe as a micro-budget affair on the Web. The only other alternative I can think of would be to put two really famous people on the air and have them slug it out instead of picking two non-famous writers. It's really the personalities that would sell the show, regardless of how many film reviews they've written, not the "knowledge of film history" which nobody except other film critics and historians cares about.
