"So You Think You Can Dance" kicks off the live performance portion of season eight tonight and thanks to Nigel Lythgoe's wise ways, he's decided to bring back the partnerships that were sorely missing last year (the All-Stars will come into play during the Top 10).
For my money, it is this unique element that has helped "SYTYCD" maintain its status as TV's premiere dance competition show. Sure, "Dancing with the Stars" also follows one partnership across the season, but there is something extra special about taking professionals out of the mix.
Not only do you see them grow together -- both in capabilities and friendship -- but lucking out with the right partner also determines how far you go in the competition. People like Kameron and Randi have made it farther than their personality or skillset would carry them individually, while others like Kourtni have gone home too soon for being stuck with a wet mop.
With that in mind, and in the spirit of the show's search for America's Favorite Dancer, I've ranked my seven favorite partnerships in "So You Think You Can Dance" history.
Note: I would like to give Allison Holker a special shout-out as possibly the best partner anyone could hope for since she consistently elevates her partner's work and consistently creates magic moments. See: Allison & Ivan, Allison & Alex, Allison & Robert.
Number 1: Katee & Joshua
Partnership Lasted: Five Weeks, but reunited in Top 6 & Top 4
Signature Routine: "Hometown Glory"
Second Best: "Dnoom Taana"
Third Best: "Baila, Baila"
Fifth Best: "No Air"
