I fear that "Heroes" has traveled beyond the point of redemption. I so badly wanted to love the new season. I so badly wanted the show to get back to season one's level of brilliance. I so badly wanted more Sylar. One out of three is not ideal.
First the good - Sylar done blown up real good. Didn't see that coming, loved every moment of his Mister Rogers-esque existence with son Noah (named after Claire's daddy - discuss). Now on to the bad.
The main problem is that "Heroes" is all over the map. It's in the future, it's in present day, it's talking about the past, it's in a desert, it's inside level 5, it's in Washington D.C. - I feel like I need a syllabus just to keep up. Globe-hopping is nothing new to the show, but at least in season one you felt the characters being pulled together by some grand design - this year, it's as if the writers are throwing darts at labeled index cards to decide who should be paired up this week.
Matt is with...Daphne! Hiro is talking to...Angela! Nathan marries...Tracy! And let's talk about the sudden revelation that Tracy was one of three triplets - Niki is dead, Barbara is still out there - and she was given her powers. I love the idea of people born with abilities fighting those who were given them, but it feels like every time the story gets close to dealing with that, someone gets shot and we move on.
Oddly I have been reveling in my frustrations lately. Every time Maya comes on screen I can't wait to see what drivel they make her say. Last night's winner, "this milk has gone bad." So maybe that's the way I should approach this show from now on, anticipate curdled milk and enjoy the surprise of nuclear ice cream.
