I would die! Cause of death: outrageousness

November 05, 2009 ι Jarett Wieselman

OK, so this is one I can't really pawn off on my sister. Growing up, I was obsessed with Jem. I loved her clothes, her car, her red star earrings, the Holograms, Synergy -- I wanted it all. And to a large degree I had it all since my bedroom was adorned with every piece of paraphernalia possible.

So the news that a Jem and the Holograms movie is possibly big screen bound strikes me as the coolest, funniest, most ridiculous thing I've heard in my entire life. How this property could be turned into a legitimate movie in today's day and age is beyond me.

I mean, who would buy that a magical being came to Earth specifically to turn an average girl into a rockstar? And that no one recognizes her because she has different hair and makeup? I mean, who would ever buy that?

So for no reason other than the fact she had pink hair and is truly outrageous, I'm going to nominate Rachel McAdams for the lead dual role of Jem & Jerrica Benton, in a "Jem and The Holograms" feature film. Although I suspect this movie will never actually come to fruition, it was a wonderful trip down memory lane. Flashing back to the days when I'd pop that pink Jem cassette tape into my walkman and spend all day memorizing the lyrics to "She's Got The Power." I'm not the only one, right?
