Although their relationship hasn't generated as much screen time as Will's love triangle or Rachel's love quadrangle, Tina & Artie have quickly become fan favorites and spawned their very own couple nickname: ArTina. The last we saw, Artie was rolling away post-smooch after Tina revealed she'd been faking her stutter. Tonight fans will finally have any lingering questions regarding the status of their couple-dom answered.
But like any real relationship, it will ebb and flow in the weeks to come, according to Jenna Ushkowitz. We got the scoop on "Glee's" next eight episodes -- GaGa! Bill Joel! Identity crisis! -- and found out what song she's hoping Tina tackles next!
PopWrap: Tonight's episode deals with Tina and Artie's relationship -- how would you characterize it?
Jenna Ushkowitz: I wouldn’t say they’re on good terms, there’s definitely some resolving to be had. You'll see conversations tonight where the state of their relationship unfolds and hopefully fans will be encouraged by them. But they're going to go through enough before they can actually come together to be ArTina again. Don't stop rooting for them though.
PW: Fans are chomping at the bit for tonight's Madonna episode -- how are you feeling about it?
Jenna: I’m so excited for you guys to see "The Power of Madonna" -- everybody’s work in that episode is incredible. The production value is huge, my costumes and makeup are incredible. I’m so glad it’s finally on tonight because I don’t think I could wait any longer!
PW: Which is your favorite performance?
Jenna: "Like A Prayer" Anything that you guys feel watching that scene go down, we felt times ten shooting it. It’s crazy.
PW: We didn't learn too much about Tina outside "Glee" in the first 13 episodes, will we in the back nine?
Jenna: You don’t see her home life, you don’t see anybody’s home life so much just yet, but you will see more Tina. She has some fun stuff with Principal Figgins. She goes through some phases. She definitely encounters some problems with her look.
PW: She's not ditching the goth though, right?
Jenna: No, Tina knows who she is, and the goth thing is a part of how she expresses herself. So that won’t go away, but you’ll definitely see her go through some problems with that. She’s still shy, and her clothes are one of the only ways for her to show who she is.
PW: How would you say these episodes differ from the others, if they do?
Jenna: The back nine is so cool because not only do you get he really great fun group numbers, but you also get a lot of solos and backstories, with some episodes being about one or two characters. I think that’s why I like these – everybody has a chance to really have their moment. Every episode is different, every episode is brilliant and we just get crazier and crazier.
PW: Like with the Lady GaGa episode? We saw your bubble dress earlier this month, and I can't even begin to talk about it.
Jenna: Isn't it amazing? It’s so amazing. The shock factor is a big part of it, so I don’t want to say much, but GaGa's iconic and like Ryan [Murphy] said, it only feels natural that we'd use her songs.
PW: With all the options for guest spots, I'd imagine celebrities are approaching you guys at every awards show. Any surprises?
Jenna: Meryl Streep came up to us at The SAG's and that was kind of incredible. She’s who we all kept saying was the one person we wanted to meet. Duh, it’s Meryl. She was such a joyous person. Another one was Julianne Moore – she said the music is always on in her house. It’s so nice to hear.
PopWrap: With at least five songs every episode, do any stand out as favorites in the back nine?
Jenna: Being able to do "Hello, Goodbye" by The Beatles last week – I mean, that’s The Beatles. I couldn’t believe I was singing that. And I didn’t get to do it, but Matthew does a Billy Joel song. I love everything by him ... and Elton John. I'd love to do "Tiny Dancer."
PW: What about in non-"Glee" terms, what artists are you just loving right now?
Jenna: I’m really enjoying Goldfrapp. The new album is incredible – and GaGa, obviously [laughs]. Coconut Records too they’re great. Get on it.
