Last night was the first time since 1991 that I actually stayed up to watch the premiere of a music video. And like Michael Jackson's "Black or White," the mini-movie that Lady GaGa has created for "Telephone" is a stunning work of art.
The set-up is simple -- La Ga & Beyonce are Bonnie & Clyde-like criminals, but somehow GaGa ends up in the clink wearing an ever increasing array of John Waters-like costumes (those Diet Coke curlers are pure Waters!). B bails her out, they engage in some Tarantino-like conversation, and go on a killing spree.
Unlike Lady GaGa's other videos, the 9-minute performance piece that is "Telephone" has little desire to make it onto VH1 Top 10 Video Countdowns. It also shares little of the visual aesthetic we've come to expect from the "Bad Romance" creating queen.
It almost has the feel of a Gregg Araki movie -- which is a huge compliment! The video ends with a tag "to be continued..." and we can only hope that turns out to be true!
Also, I accidentally paused the video on the image below, which pretty much made my day.

W. T. F?!
I realize that most of the drones who spank off to her every move are the kind of people who lap up whatever pop drivel you set in front of them but come on already! I enjoy some good ear fromage and hell, am almost diggin' the song "Telephone" but enough with this slag. I've lost count of all the artists she has *cough* "borrowed" from and am sick of hearing the word "original" used in any relation whatsoever to her. Beyonce's hands are no cleaner.
What an excruciating ten minute assault on the senses.
