I think we all went into last night's "So You Think You Can Dance" finale with the same expectation -- Robert would place third (which he did), Lauren would place second and Kent would win. Don't get me wrong, Kent is a beautiful dancer -- but his victory would underscore the oft said fact: "SYTYCD" searches for America's favorite dancer, not America's best dancer.
But when the results came down, the girl I've been behind since week four defied my expectations and was named America's! Favorite! Dancer!
To say I squealed like a little girl getting a puggle would be an understatement. There is nothing I love more than picking a winner. Especially a sensible one. "I'm going to save it because I'm 18 and I'll do crazy things if I have that much money," she told E! of the $250,000 prize. She added, "I will spend a little bit for something for my parents because they supported me and believed in me this whole time and I wouldn't be the dancer I am without them."
But her parents aren't the only ones who'll score a little cash. "I feel like maybe I should give [my butt] some prize money because it helped me along this journey. I don't think I could've done Tahitian without it," she joked.
The two-hour telecast was studded with amazing new (loved Lauren & Robert's pillow piece) and encore performances (Robert & Allison's "Fix You" was better the second time around). But I have two gripes.
1. Seriously, clowns again?
2. As much as I adore Ellen DeGeneres as a performer, that love doesn't extend to her dancing -- and seeing her take over for the injured Alex Wong in Tabitha & Napoleon's (I refuse to acknowledge their nickname) hip-hop piece with Twitch was not pleasant.
But even that couldn't dampen my mood since I believe the right dancer -- both America's best and favorite -- was crowned!
What did you think of the finale?
