TNT has renewed “Perception” — giving star Eric McCormack his first series hit since “Will & Grace” ended six years ago.

“Perception,” which premiered in July, has averaged 7 million viewers in its Monday-night timeslot, ranking behind only “Major Crimes” as basic cable’s top-rated new scripted series.

In the show, McCormack plays Dr. Daniel Pierce, a brilliant college professor plagued by paranoid schizophrenia who works with one of his ex-students, FBI agent Kate Moretti (Rachel Leigh Cook), to help solve crimes.

While McCormack has worked steadily since “Will & Grace” ended, his first attempt at a new series, “Trust Me,” lasted only one season.
