Hackley again proved to be too much for Fieldston.
The Eagles lost both regular-season meetings to their Tarrytown rivals and hoped the third time would the charm. Instead, top-seeded Hackley jumped out to a fast start and rolled to a 15-5 win over No. 2 Fieldston in the NYSAISAA boys lacrosse final Wednesday at Manhattanville College in Purchase.
The victory gives the Hornets their first-ever state title, erasing the memory of last season’s upset loss to Poly Prep in the championship game and consecutive defeats in the final.
Sam Alabaster paced Hackley (18-1), the unbeaten Ivy League champion, with four goals and an assist and Jibran Ahmad had two goals and three assists. James Sheldon chipped in two goals. The Hornets led 6-0 and took an 8-1 advantage into halftime. Tanner Morris had three goals and an assist for Fieldston (15-4), which was playing in its first title game since 2009 and placed second behind Hackley in the Ivy League.
NYSAISAA GIRLS LACROSSE FINAL
No. 1 Hackley 13, No. 6 Holy Child 7: Trish Gorman, who is headed to William & Mary, scored three goals for Hackley (17-1), which had to beat defending champion Riverdale in the semifinals. The senior played for the second straight year with a torn ACL as the Hornets won their first championship since winning consecutive titles in 2008 and 2009. Charlotte Elcock paced Holy Child (9-10) by finding the back of the net five times.
