Wrap StarsFrom fur hats and vests to pops of neon and layers, fabulous fashionistas don't let the lingering winter season wreak havoc on their could-be spring ensembles.

Temperatures are still dipping to improbable lows, and precipitation has been both relentless and varied—leaving the sidewalks sullied by a generous layer of icy, treacherous gunk.

It's hardly a suitable runway for the average woman's stable of high heels.

Mother Nature's mercurial moods have also mucked up our wardrobe options, seeing that most of them have been obscured by a puffy, oversize parka, the most ubiquitous and practical clothing item this season.

But when it comes to New York's most fashionable women, style is like the United States Postal Service: Neither snow nor rain can keep them down.

And fashion's elite meet the challenge head-on this season—with fur.

"I feel for PETA," says 26-year-old Vanessa Packer. "But when it's 14 degrees, you just have to bust out the fur and leather pants," says the stylist, who tops off her pair with an oversize animal-print cape.

Pelts transformed into hats, scarves, jackets and vests, which many women use to layer both under and over coats, have been spotted as often as the real deal on an African safari.

Celebrity stylist June Ambrose boldly wears an oversize fur-trapper hat from Bergdorf Goodman with everything, darling.

"When it's about fashion, wear the things you love," she advises. "I'll probably wear this hat with a bikini this summer."

Magazine editors and stylists have also been walking tutorials in the art of layering without adding bulk.

"[It] can be tricky. You have to know how to cinch in all the right places," says Ambrose, showing off her nifty belted Comme des Garçons topcoat over a gingham button-down shirt and Alexander McQueen scarf.

Eleanor Strauss, who wears Rebecca Taylor over-the-knee boots, agrees.

"I wear lots of monochromatic layers, so you still look thinnish," chirps the senior fashion editor for Lucky magazine, garbed in head-to-toe black.

Other showstoppers incorporate pops of pastels and neons in their wintry mix—an optimistic nod toward the impending warmth.

Some, however, like Marc Jacobs employee Sara Kurtzle, work their magic with a standard parka—pairing it with a delicate girly frock and lace-up oxfords.

"I'm in town from San Francisco. Basically, I'm not used to this weather, so this coat was a great layer," says the 28-year-old.

But when all else fails and the weather doesn't cooperate, take another page out of the fashion editor's must-have list: a driver.
