GET SET FOR A SCORCHER

Get ready to roast, New York, as the first heat wave of the season hits the city starting tomorrow.

Temperatures are set to climb into the mid-90s and stay there at least until Tuesday. Such thermometer readings are up to 15 degrees above normal.

"It's a Bermuda-high-type setup," said John Murray, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. "It's going to be muggy."

The expected heat wave is causing power companies to brace for increased electricity usage, while anyone selling anything remotely hot-weather related is licking their chops.

"We've been rolling out air conditioners and dehumidifiers all day today," said Soloman Amir, a manager at P.C. Richard in Kew Gardens, Queens.

Con Ed spokesman Alfonso Quiroz said, "We're asking our customers to conserve and use energy very wisely."

The warm temperatures are expected to send thousands flocking to the beaches, which was good news for the Strawberry clothing shop on Austin Street in Forest Hills, where bikinis have been flying off the shelves.
