ROBERSON, KNICKS IN STINKER

LAS VEGAS - Anthony Roberson wasn't drilling shots yesterday, his legs tired from the Las Vegas two-a-day practices. But it's the first time the Knick brass has seen him miss.

All the Knicks' summer-leaguers had tired shooting legs, and Roberson led the brickfest with a 4-of-13 shooting day in their 82-67 loss to San Antonio at Cox Pavilion.

The Knicks shot 36.4 percent, with debuting Nate Robinson and Mardy Collins combining for 3 of 18.

As reported in yesterday's Post, Roberson, the 6-foot-1 combo guard, has agreed to terms on a two-year deal with a second-year option for the league minimum. The first year is fully guaranteed at $798,000, giving the Knicks 16 guaranteed contracts, one over the maximum, as the Knicks contemplate waiving Stephon Marbury and Jerome James.

The Knicks acted quickly, afraid other clubs watching Roberson in Vegas might be tempted.

Roberson, who played for Memphis and Golden State, is expected to sign the contracts today after FIBA sends a clearance letter. Roberson played last season for Jerusalem and Istanbul.

Team president Walsh seemed angry at the Marbury connection.

"I haven't made that leap of faith," he said. "I have some ideas. But I'm not ready to jump off the cliff."

In truth, Knicks' brass believes Marbury is a bad fit, but still has slight queasiness eating $22 million to allow him to play for another team.
