The city's Parks Department yesterday searched for the diamondback rattlesnake that bit a pit bull in a Bronx park, but the potentially lethal snake is still slithering around.

The department contacted the dog's owner, Miguel Mota, and he took them to a spot in Bronx Park where the attack occurred Tuesday afternoon.

Employees searched but didn't find anything. The department alerted park rangers to be on the lookout for the rattler.

"I'm scared. Obviously, a lot of people around here are scared," said Raul Rodriguez, superintendent of the agency's District 11, which includes the park.

"Where the bite happened is a very secluded area," he said. "Lovers tend to go there. I'm afraid for them and others, too. There are kids in this park."

The pit bull, Stone, is doing well and should be released from a West Side animal hospital in a day or two, Mota said.
