Scott Gottlieb's article about the Medicare bill that Congress passed by an overwhelming bipartisan majority plays fast and loose with the truth ("Washington's Health Wars," PostOpinion, July 10).

Gottlieb has been an advisor to health insurance plans, the only group opposed to the bill.

In addition to fighting to stop Medicare physician payment cuts that would harm access to health care, AMA has repeatedly testified before Congress about the need to replace the payment formula. Anyone who claims otherwise is uninformed or purposely misleading the public.

The AMA-supported bill was backed by more than 100 patient, physician and military organizations, including AARP, Military Coalition and American Diabetes Association. There is only one voice on the other side: the health-insurance industry lobby.
