Is this a politician with a case of bad judgment? There seems to be an epidemic these days ("SI-Bashing Pol a Real Beach Bum," July 17).
Or is this just a really savvy marketing guy who wants to get his town in the news?
Belmar is far from a "two-bit" Jersey town. It has beautiful beaches, wonderful restaurants and entertainment.
Unfortunately, for many years, some who owned property in Belmar opted to rent to throngs of teens and college groups. They made fabulous money, got great write-offs and, truthfully, didn't give a hoot about the chaos this created. The town has been on a campaign to regain its single-family status. For those who have come to Belmar to reclaim the land and return it to the beauty of surrounding towns like Sea Girt, Spring Lake and Avon, the mayor's letter is their Magna Carta.
