LAS VEGAS - O.J. Simpson is tossing and turning in jail, unable to sleep and fretting about his kids and about possibly spending the rest of his life behind bars, pals said yesterday.

He's been locked up in isolation since a jury convicted him Friday for leading a team of armed thugs into a Vegas hotel room last year to rob two sports-memorabilia dealers.

"He can't sleep. He's thinking about his kids and his appeal," Thomas Scotto told The Post. Describing Simpson as shocked by the conviction, Scotto quoted him as saying, "It was a nothing incident to turn into something like this!"

Meanwhile, Fred Goldman - whose son, Ron was slain with O.J.'s ex Nicole Brown in 1994 - celebrated the verdict. "It was our relentless effort that ultimately caused [Simpson] to commit these crimes," Goldman declared. "I would like to think all these things we did played into the burglary."

Prosecutors did say that Simpson set up the robbery in Nevada to dodge a California court order to compensate the estates of Brown and Goldman $33 million.
