Mayor Bloomberg yesterday said he would play Daddy Warbucks to little orphan charities bracing for steep cuts in grants and donations.
The mayor said that the economic meltdown's impact on charities had left him "petrified" and that he would try to help out. He gave away $205 million last year and said he was weighing "ramping up" his donations this year.
